Quick verdict
Same company. Same glass. Same plastic lid. Pyrex Freshlock and Snapware Total Solution (the Pyrex glass version) are the locking-lid twins Wirecutter treats as one pick. Testers like the seal. This site does not call that best, because the lid is still plastic. If you want the Pyrex aisle without a plastic hat, that is Pyrex Ultimate (glass lid, silicone rim). If you want the actual swap, skip the query: Bentgo Signature or IKEA 365+ with bamboo.
People Google Pyrex vs Snapware because both sit in the glass-container aisle and both promise leftovers that do not leak. Corelle owns both brands. The glass is Pyrex tempered soda-lime either way. The fight is the lid.
I compared current spec sheets, Corelle’s own product pages, and the labs that leak-test this stuff (Wirecutter June 2026, America’s Test Kitchen, Serious Eats). I have not run my own shake test. Where a seal “wins,” that is their result.
The short version
- Snapware Total Solution, Pyrex glass: four plastic latches, silicone gasket, Pyrex bowl. Testers like the lock. Lid is plastic.
- Pyrex Freshlock: same idea. Four plastic latches, Pyrex bowl. Wirecutter says the 10-piece Freshlock and the Snapware Total Solution Pyrex glass 10-piece are identical except gasket color. Some replacement-lid SKUs do not swap. Buy the set, not a lid mix from the junk drawer.
- Pyrex Simply Store: the old push-on plastic lids. Cheaper. Worse seal. Still plastic on the rim.
- Pyrex Ultimate: glass lid with a silicone rim. No thermoplastic in the food zone. Heavier. Reviewers who care about leaks sometimes ding the seal. This is the only Pyrex line this site will point at as a plastic-free lid.
The lid is still the catch
Same story as the Hydro Flask and the glass roundup. The bowl is inert. The lid is where plastic comes back. Soup that sloshes into a latch lid is plastic-to-food contact. Heat makes that worse. “Microwave-safe lid” means the plastic will not melt in there. It does not mean nothing moved into dinner. A 2023 University of Nebraska-Lincoln study in Environmental Science & Technology put numbers on microwaving plastic: millions of microplastics and billions of nanoplastics per square centimeter. (Hussain et al., 2023)
Do not microwave with a plastic lid on. Heat the glass. Park the lid. That is true for Snapware, Freshlock, Simply Store, and Rubbermaid Brilliance.
BPA-free on those lids is not a gold star. We covered the swap-to-BPS problem in BPA-free bottles. Silicone on a gasket is the synthetic this site will live with. Longer version: Is silicone safe?
If you already own one of them
Keep the bowls. They are glass. Stop putting the plastic lid in the microwave. If a latch breaks, Corelle sells replacement lids. That is cheaper than another 18-piece set. When the lids go, replace with Bentgo or IKEA bamboo instead of another plastic-lid twin.
If you are still buying
Default: Bentgo Signature. Glass lid, silicone gasket, you can microwave with the lid on because the lid is glass. That is the pick in the glass storage roundup.

Watching money: IKEA 365+ glass with the bamboo lid, not the plastic lid next to it on the shelf. Not a backpack-soup seal. Fine for fridge leftovers.
Stay in the Pyrex aisle: Pyrex Ultimate, glass lid. Check the vendor. The seal is not why testers crown Snapware. The lid material is why it is on this page.
pyrexhome.com (look for Ultimate, glass lid, not Freshlock).
If a plastic-lid set is the only way the deli tubs leave tonight
Buy whichever of Freshlock or Snapware Total Solution (Pyrex glass) is cheaper this week. Treat them as the same product. Lid off the microwave. Do not buy both. Do not buy the all-plastic Snapware Total Solution if you came here for glass.
Pyrex Simply Store 9-pack (push-on lids, stopgap): Amazon. Snapware glass locking sets: Snapware glass on pyrexhome.com. Freshlock 10-piece: Pyrex Freshlock.
The Bottom Line
Pyrex vs Snapware is not a glass fight. It is two plastic lids on the same bowl. If you want the leftover pasta out of the takeout tub without putting plastic back on the rim, buy Bentgo or IKEA bamboo. A cheaper locking Pyrex or Snapware set is a stepping stone. Heat the glass. Park the lid.
